Hey, girl, hey

Happy Wednesday, sis.

I spent the day in my group texts ... and ION really like group texts. Yet, for the past few weeks, they've made me smile. They made me feel loved and connected in the middle of an ordinary day.

Annoying and lovely at the same time.

So today's pour is on the lighter side: a few good reads, a woman worth following, and one question to carry into the rest of your week.

Get your spoon out ... you're going to love this pot.

Let's get into it.

PUT HER ON YOUR RADAR

Dr. Cynthia Smith - founder, Minds of the Future Academy

She started at the bottom of Duval County Public Schools, walked away in 2016, and bought a small daycare.

By 2019 it had become a tuition-free academy where every student comes from a low-income household, teaching coding and robotics from kindergarten, running a makerspace where kids sewed varsity jackets for the school store, and a garden that sends families home with free produce on Fridays.

In 2025 she bought a 28,000-square-foot building; this summer the school became fully accredited.

Follow her for proof of what one determined woman builds when nobody's coming to save it.

Running this one back: "What Did We Save Her To?"

I shared this essay in a previous issue ... and it's still doing its work, so we're running it back on purpose.

Here's what one of one of you left in the comments:

"Whew. This is DEEP. 'What did we save her to?' is a question that will stay with me. We talk so much about helping people survive, but not nearly enough about changing the conditions that make simply existing feel unbearable... Thank you for putting words to something so many people feel but may not know how to articulate."

If you missed it the first time, or you've been carrying it since, read it (again) here.

GET Curious

Group chats are annoying and lovely at the same damn time.

So this week, sis: where did you feel unexpectedly held ... a text, a voice note, a room, a stranger ... and what would it look like to reach back toward that connection on purpose?

In love + light ... Bea
